Today, I conclude the Advent series with some very, very old poetry. Poetry, in fact, that you’re already familiar with. You likely sing a form of it, or listen to it each year. Today, I am looking at Old English and Middle English translations of the Great O Antiphons, better known to us today as the foundation of the wonderful Advent hymn, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. Let’s look for the Dayspring, the Dawn, the Sun of Justice.

This whole Advent series was absolutely wonderful. I loved every one of the episodes. They were informative, but also deeply prayerful in way that helped to make this Advent prayerful and meaningful for me. Your analysis of Journey of the Magi was especially meaningful. I also enjoyed George Herbert’s poem, “The Bag,” as well as your discussion of Earendel. Thank you for the time and effort you put into this Advent program. Merry Christmas!
